The late sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski, seen in an undated photo from the Crazy Horse Archives, accepted an invitation to create a memorial for the American Indian, beginning the project 50 years ago in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Work on the Crazy Horse memorial continues today, pursued by Korczak's widow, Ruth, and seven of his 10 children.
