Las Vegas: 'Jubilee!' closing for a makeover, returning in March

"Jubilee!," the long-running Las Vegas extravaganza at Bally's featuring classic showgirls, will close temporarily at the end of January for an overhaul.

"Jubilee!" will reopen in March with some new cast members and other changes. More than 13 million people have seen the show since it opened in 1981 in Las Vegas.

Choreographer and director Frank Gatson, Jr. is at the helm for the reimagining. Among Gatson’s credits are music videos and other creative projects for artists such as Beyoncé, Mariah Carey and Rihanna.

A publicist told me it’s not yet known how many of the epic production numbers, including the tales of Samson and Delilah and the sinking of the Titanic, will remain when the show reopens. (Fans wanting to see those classic set pieces might want to attend this month.)  The final presentations before the show goes dark will be at 7 and 10 p.m. on Jan. 30.

Ticket prices, which start at $65, will remain unchanged. They are available online or by calling (855) 234-7469.

Coast-to-coast auditions are underway for the reincarnated show. The Vegas tryouts will be Tuesday in the "Jubilee!" Theater.
