David Beckham practiced driving speedboat before opening ceremony

Remember that scene from the opening ceremony that looked as though it came out of a James Bond movie.

It featured David Beckham, looking dapper in a black suit, driving a speed boat down the Thames River, his wake illuminated by blue, pink and golden lights.

At a Galaxy practice on Wednesday, Beckham discussed that maneuver for the first time.

"I was out on the boat for a few hours," he said in a video interview, courtesy of "It was good. I had a few goes at it during the week so I was prepared. Yeah, it was good times."

Beckham seemed thrilled about his participation in the London Olympics despite being passed over by the British soccer team.

"It was a great experience, being part of it, being part of such a historic moment for England," he said. "It was special so I enjoyed it."

Beckham said he will return to London for the Aug. 12 closing ceremony, which means he will miss the team's third and final match of the season against rival Chivas USA.

"Obviously being an East End boy and growing up there, obviously having the Olympics in London is a very proud moment for us all," he said.

Beckham and the Galaxy will play Real Madrid on Thursday in a non-MLS game at Home Depot Center at 7:30 p.m.
