2 dead in crash after hours-long police chase near Sacramento

Three men were in custody Wednesday after allegedly running a red light and killing two people as they fled officers near Sacramento.

The men were being chased following a burglary investigation in Auburn around 5 a.m. The three suspects led police on a chase through Auburn’s side streets before ditching their vehicle, Fox40 in Sacramento reported.

One suspect was taken into custody. The other two then continued running and eventually stole a white truck. They drove the truck down Interstate 80 with officers in pursuit, exiting in the Antelope area after reaching speeds up to 100 mph.

Near Antelope Road, the truck ran a red light and crashed into a car. Two people inside the car were killed.

The two suspects then took off running. One was taken into custody immediately, while the other led officers on a chase through the neighborhood.

A helicopter flew overhead, alerting people to stay indoors and report activity seen in their yards or homes. The third suspect was finally caught in a house.

Nearby schools were placed on lockdown as their day was starting. They were later opened.

The investigation is ongoing.
