Twitter Inc. has launched a full Web version of its popular Vine video-sharing social network, expanding the service beyond its smartphone app.
Vine users can now view and "like" videos, leave comments and "re-vine" others via the new website. Users, however, can't post videos through the website.
By going to Vine.co and logging in, users can now see their home feed, which lists videos posted by them and those they follow.
Previously, users could only click on links to individual videos sent by email or tweet. They weren't able to navigate around Vine the way they could with the Vine smartphone app.
Vine also introduced a new feature available only the Web version. The feature, called TV Mode, lets users watch Vine videos by users they follow in one continuous stream.
To access TV Mode, users must go to Vine.co and click on the TV icon in the top right corner of the screen.
Vine may have decided to add TV Mode because some users are starting to watch the six-second videos on YouTube, where there are countless Vine video compilations. Users are also turning to Vinescope.com, a website that lets users quickly scroll through popular videos from the social network.
With TV Mode, Vine may be able to keep users within its social network for longer periods of time. And that, of course, is useful should Twitter decide to introduce ads to Vine.
