Graffiti tributes written by members of the public cover the entrance to the Abbey Road recording studio in London, which has been put up for sale by its owner, EMI. The studio is synonymous with the Beatles and in particular their album "Abbey Road," whose cover image was taken on the zebra crossing outside the studio. Former Beatle Paul McCartney has said he hopes the famous studio can be saved and its status as a working recording studio preserved. EMI, which is owned by private equity firm Terra Firma, needs to raise over $155 million to prevent a breach of its banking arrangements with Citigroup. It is estimated that the sale of the studio could raise as much as $47 million.
