Beyoncé, Jay Z to bring 'On the Run' special to HBO in September

Mr. and Mrs. Carter are currently spending the summer firing up stadiums -- and dodging rumors of marital strife --  on their joint On  the Run tour.

And now, the massive production will come to television as Beyoncé and Jay Z bring their show to HBO.

The network announced Thursday it would tape a pair of shows for a concert special set to premiere in September. The special will be taped during their shows in Paris on Sept. 12 and 13 -- the only international shows they’ve booked -- and will feature more than 40 songs.

“This is a major musical event that belongs on HBO,” Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming said in a statement. “It’s going to be a night to remember.”

Despite a number of joint hits documenting their love over the last dozen or so years -- “Crazy in Love,” “ '03 Bonnie & Clyde” and “Drunk in Love,” to name a few -- and countless performances together, the pair had yet to tour together.

The stadium tour bookends a busy year for the couple.

Jay’s Magna Carter world tour ended in January after a stadium run with Justin Timberlake. The rap mogul also recently announced an L.A. edition of his Made in America Festival.

Beyoncé’s extensive Mrs. Carter Show -- she dropped her top-secret surprise self-titled album toward the end of her U.S. run -- closed in March and was one of the top-grossing tours of all time.

And both superstars are no stranger to HBO either.

The pop diva is currently the focus of “Beyoncé: X10,” a 10-episode miniseries of flashy performances from her Mrs. Carter Show that premiered before HBO’s hit vampire series “True Blood”; last year, she also revealed herself through the documentary “Life Is But a Dream.”

And last summer, Jay used HBO to debut “Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film” built around his hit album “Magna Carta Holy Grail.”
