Moviegoers who aren't all cried out from "The Fault in Our Stars" have another tear-jerking young-adult adaptation to watch out for in "If I Stay," and a new trailer for the Chloe Grace Moretz film puts the emotion front and center.
Based on the novel by Gayle Forman and directed by R.J. Cutler, "If I Stay" tells the story of Mia (Moretz), a young woman who is gravely injured in a car accident and has to choose whether to live or die. Complicating her choice, her parents were killed in the crash, but she's in love with a young musician (Jamie Blackley) and has a younger brother to look after.
The trailer, which you can watch above, tugs at the heartstrings with a tender reminiscences, ardent declarations of love, copious slow-motion footage and a swelling soundtrack (M83's trailer-friendly "Outro").
As Mia grapples with what to do next, seemingly in the midst of an out-of-body experience, a nurse whispers in her ear, "If you live, if you die, it's all up to you, so whatever fight you've got in you, you've got to pull it out now."
At CinemaCon in March, Cutler said, "This is unlike anything I think you've ever seen her do. She will capture your heart and break it in the same moment."
