Francis Ford Coppola cast his youngest child as the baby being christened during the chilling finale of 1972's "The Godfather." She was also seen on a boat in 1974's "The Godfather Part II." After Winona Ryder left the production of 1990's "The Godfather Part III," he cast teenaged Sofia as Michael Corleone's ill-fated daughter Mary.
Her performance was also ill-fated. Hal Hinson in the Washington Post stated that "Sofia Coppola is hopelessly amateurish." She won Razzie Awards for worst new star and worst supporting actress.
Sofia Coppola has had much more success following in her Oscar-winning father's footsteps behind the camera, earning her own Oscar for original screenplay for her 2003 romantic comedy, "Lost in Translation." She also received an Academy Award nomination for best director. Her latest film, "The Bling Ring," premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to positive reviews.
