TV ratings: CBS' 'Intelligence' debuts solid, 'New Girl' down

CBS is looking smart after the debut of its new sci-fi action series "Intelligence" on Tuesday. The premiere of the show, starring Josh Holloway of "Lost" as a super-agent with a chip in his brain, drew 16.6 million viewers, making it the most watched new series opener of the season, according to early numbers from Nielsen.

"Intelligence" scored a rating of 2.4 in the key 18-49 demographic, which is 33% better than the premiere of "Golden Boy" last February. "Golden Boy," which had a later time slot, was canceled in May. It didn't hurt that "Intelligence" aired right after "NCIS," which is the most watched series on TV. The new show moves to its regular Monday time period next week.

"NCIS" drew more than 20.6 million viewers and earned a rating of 2.9 in 18-49, flat with its previous episode. "Person of Interest" was also flat with a 2.0 in the demo.

NBC's lineup suffered a bit without "The Voice." The two-hour "Biggest Loser" returned with a 1.7 in 18-49, down 15% from its last original episode before the midseason break, while "Chicago Fire" fell 14% to a 1.9 without the big "Voice" lead-in.

ABC's new "Killer Woman" didn't kill in its debut, with just 3.87 million viewers overall and a 0.9 rating among young adults, worse than the quickly canceled fall offering "Lucky 7." Elsewhere on ABC, "Marvel's Agents of SH.I.E.L.D." was roughly flat in its return with a 2.1 after going on break in December, while "The Goldbergs" increased slightly to a 1.7 and "Trophy Wife" was steady at a 1.2.

Fox's "New Girl" returned after more than a month off the air with 3.17 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in the demo, down 16% from its last original episode. The rest of Fox's lineup was essentially steady post-break, with "Dads" up 7% to a 1.5, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" down a tick to a 1.5 and "Mindy Project" rising 8% to a 1.3.
