New School of Cooking: Leading up to their launch of the Professional Culinary Arts and Pastry Arts Programs on July 29, the New School of Cooking will be hosting open houses for prospective students each Monday in July from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Each night, there will be tastings and interactive demos to demonstrate what students can expect during the comprehensive six-month programs. "Roaring Nights": A new 18-and-up nighttime series is coming to the L.A. Zoo on Thursday, and July 18 and 25 from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be food trucks with zoo-inspired treats such as Coolhaus’ Monkeying Around ice cream sandwich with vegan chocolate banana truffle cookies and bananas Foster ice cream; Crepe'n Around's the Zookeeper, a fresh mango crepe with coconut pastry cream, coconut shavings and mango coulis; and Komodo's Indonesian steak stir-fried rice with garlic aioli and fried egg in honor of the Komodo dragon. In addition to the food truck offerings, there will also be animal-inspired cocktails, live music by So Many Wizards, CHIEF and NO, stand-up comedians at the petting zoo, dancing with DJ Morningstar, and pop-up zookeeper talks. Back Lot BBQ: Adam Perry Lang, grill expert and author of "Serious Barbecue," is hosting a two-month barbecue on the back lot of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
