Five L.A. spots nominated for America's best new restaurants

Orsa & Winston, Grand Central Market, Q nominated for Bon Appetit's best new restaurants in the country

Bon Appetit has come out with its annual list of nominees for the best new restaurants in the country. This year, five Los Angeles restaurants made the cut.

It's actually a food court, but the ever-evolving Grand Central Market, with its growing number of vendors, earned a spot on the list. Highlighted are Eggslut, the burgers at Belcampo Meat Co., the overstuffed gorditas at Ana Maria, the O.G. pastrami at Wexler's Deli, the pupusas at Sarita's Pupuseria, Thai barbecued chicken at Sticky Rice and the Texas brisket at Horse Thief BBQ. 317 South Broadway, Los Angeles, (213) 624-2378,

Also nominated is Orsa & Winston, a fine-dining restaurant with Japanese, Italian and L.A. influences by Josef Centeno, also the man behind Tex-Mex restaurant Bar Ama next door and Baco Mercat around the block. Highlighted are Centeno's tasting menus with coddled eggs, pancetta and cream, geoduck and lobster risotto and the Satsuki rice with uni. 122 West 4th St., Los Angeles, (213) 687-0300,

Another downtown spot to make the list is Q, the sushi restaurant by Hiroyuki Naruke. Bon Appetit restaurant and drinks editor Andrew Knowlton described the omakase restaurant as "a zone of seafood meditation for hard-core sushi fans" and likes the "cool collection of vintage Japanese abacuses behind the bar." 521 West 7th St., Los Angeles, (213) 225-6285,

Ludo Lefebvre's Trois Mec was nominated with its coveted plates of riced potatoes under blankets of brown butter. Knowlton advises readers to hope that the garlic bread and popped salt-and-vinegar-flavored buckwheat are on the menu. Petite Trois also received a small nod of recognition. 716 North Highland Ave., Los Angeles,

Also nominated is Silver Lake newcomer Night + Market Song. The eastside outlet of the West Hollywood restaurant was highlighted for chef Kris Yenbamroong's fiery Thai street food with fatty grilled pig neck, mashed water bugs and gaeng pa nok saap jungle curry. And of course a restaurant with a vintage Cindy Crawford poster deserves a spot on the list. 3322 West Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, (323) 665-5899,
