Anna Gorman dances with her father, Ira Gorman, at her brother's wedding in 2000. In addition to a genetic mutation known as BRCA1, Anna shared a love of dancing and a love of words with her father. BRCA1 dramatically increases the risk of certain types of cancer, including breast and ovarian. Ira died at 59 from metastatic pancreatic cancer. At 32, Anna made the decision to have her uterus, ovaries and Fallopian tubes removed in the hope of reducing her own risk of contracting cancer.
