Paris-based designer Damir Doma, who has name-checked the master of minimalism Giorgio Armani as one of his heroes, showed his spring 2014 collection Wednesday morning in a sky-lighted warehouse space in the Marais.
The inspiration: Geometry and graphic plays on light and dark.
The look: Modern and feminine but not severe.
Key pieces: Crisp tailored pieces for summertime, including a sleeveless white jacket with back vent, worn with cropped white pants. White dress with fan pleated perforated polka dot skirt. Backless, crisp poplin trench dress with buckle details. Tank dress with python hem.
The verdict: Uneven. On a 78-degree day in Paris at the end of September, it was refreshing to see a designer really thinking about making clothes that beat the heat and look polished. But there were a lot of ideas here, perhaps too many for one collection. Not all of them worked (sheer striped skirts and dresses), and some of the constructions were just too tricky.
