Gay activists celebrate in front of Portugal's Parliament building in Lisbon after a bill to legalize same-sex marriages was approved. Lawmakers rejected proposals to allow gay couples to adopt, but otherwise the bill passed with little public controversy in the  predominantly Catholic country. Conservative President Anibal Cavaco Silva is not expected to veto the bill.
