Barry Sanders was born in Wichita and started his football career at North High School. He attended Oklahoma State University where he set 25 NCAA records in 1988. He averaged 200 years per game that year. He was 1988 Heisman Trophy winner. He went on to play for the Detroit Lions. Sanders was the 1989 Rookie of the Year In 1997 Sanders shared the NFL's Most Valuable Player of the Year award with Brett Farve. He retired in his prime in 1999, with less than 1500 years from breaking the all time NFL rushing record.
