1988 & 2008: Kansas University Wins the NCAA Basketball Tournament
Kansas University is famous as the birthplace of basketball in 1898 and is known as one of the top basketball programs in the country. But it wasn't until 1988 that the Jayhawks first won the coveted NCAA basketball championship. KU defeated the University of Oklahoma 83-79. Danny Manning led the team with 31 points and 18 rebounds and the team became known as "Danny and the Miracles". In 2008 the Jayhawks repeated the NCAA tournament victory, this time after a three point shot with four seconds left by Mario Chalmers that forced the game into overtime. KU went on to defeat Memphis 75 - 68. Chalmers' three point shot became known as "Mario's Miracle".
