Michaela Pereira

Michaela Pereira has been the co-host of LA's number one rated morning newscast for 8 years.

During this time, the Morning News has won 9 Emmy Awards for "Best Regularly Scheduled Daily News" and 3 for KTLA's live coverage of the Rose Parade. In addition, Michaela has been awarded with three Radio & TV News Association Golden Mike Awards: In 2006 for live coverage of a news story, "Urban Farm Eviction," as well as awards for the Best Daytime News Broadcast in both 2004 and 2006. Pereira was also honored with two Mark Twain Awards in 2004: "Best Live Coverage of a News Event, Hostage Standoff Mexican Consulate," and the "Best 60 Minute Broadcast: KTLA Morning News". Her work has also gained her guest roles on nationally televised programs such as Entourage, Everybody Hates Chris and 7th Heaven, as well as feature films like Street Kings.

Michaela made her news television debut in 1993 on Canada's CHEK-TV in Victoria, B.C. as a beat reporter and host of a magazine program. From there, she moved to San Francisco to host "Internet Tonight" on ZDTV. Her talent was recognized by Buena Vista's "Ebert & the Movies," and in 1999 Pereira became known as a guest host and later served as the show's internet correspondent. In 2001, as ZDTV morphed into satellite and cable channel TechTV, Ms. Pereira was named anchor of the highly rated technology news program "TechLive".

Beyond her broadcasting achievements, Ms. Pereira is active in several community organizations throughout California. She is a member of the board of directors for the Long Beach Boys and Girls Club; an advisory board member of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), supporting children in foster care; and co-chair of the advisory board of Optimist Youth Home, providing services for troubled youth. Pereira is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, the Black Journalists Association of Southern California, and Alliance for Women in Media (formerly AWRT).

She's been honored with numerous community awards including the Genii Award for Excellence in Broadcasting, the Hollywood Community Leadership Award and the Celebrity Philanthropist Award.

Michaela was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, growing up in a family of five adopted children. Her childhood was marked with diversity, as Michaela's parents and siblings do not share the same ethnic backgrounds. In her free time, Michaela loves to be outdoors and has triumphantly returned to snowboarding following a couple of knee surgeries.
