The resume is the starting point for most employers sifting through applications. Green said she stills receives grammatical errors and typos on resumes, and automatically questions the ability of the applicant and their attention to detail. Catrino notes that common mistakes on resumes also include inconsistency in structure, wrong use of tenses, length (employers often won't read past page one), and failure to list important skills. Employers want to know what skills applicants have, including use of social media, Mac skills, and software knowledge.
