The state has sunk hundreds of millions of dollars into preschool but, despite calls from legislators, has never studied how well such programs work to close the achievement gap. Now with the legislature soon to vote on the governor's plans to spend still more on preschool, several key legislators are insisting that a study be done as soon as possible.
