Sharpsburg Main Street churches celebrated Palm Sunday, a commemoration of Christ's entrance into Jerusalem, with a processional to the town square for the blessing of the palms. The event started with the ringing of church bells as members of the four congregations - Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran, Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren, Christ Reformed United Church of Christ and St. Paul's Episcopal - left their church buildings and processed to the square waving their palm branches. After they sang hymns, read the Palm Sunday scripture and offered a blessing for the palms, the congregations returned to their churches for their individual services.
