SAN CLEMENTE ISLAND—FOX40 News has learned a Coast Guard C-130 transport aircraft that reportedly collided with a Naval military helicopter was based out of Sacramento.
FOX40.com affiliate KTLA-TV reports nine people are missing after the helicopter and the plane collided over the Pacific Ocean some 25 miles off the coast of San Clemente Island.
A pilot reportedly saw a fireball near where the two aircraft are believed to have plunged into the water.
FAA Spokesman Ian Gregor confirmed to KTLA-TV that a Coast Guard C-130 aircraft is believed to have collided with a Navy AH-1 Cobra helicopter at 7:10pm.
Three Coast Guard cutters and four Navy ships, along with several helicopters were aiding in the search. Search crews have reportedly found debris in the water, but have not located any survivors.
