HBV transmission occurs primarily among unvaccinated adults with risky behavior (e.g., heterosexuals with multiple sex partners, injection-drug users [IDUs], and men who have sex with men [MSM]). During 1990-2005, incidence of acute hepatitis B in the United States declined 78 percent, primarily with children and adolescents who got the vaccination.
