EUGENE O'NEILL (1888 - 1953)

This Irish American playwright who won the Nobel Prize for Literature, spent his summers at his home in New London. He described his most famous and strongly autobiographical play, "Long Day's Journey Into Night," as having been written "in tears and blood... with deep pity and understanding and forgiveness for all the four haunted Tyrones."
