TOM BROWN/ SPECIAL TO THE COURANT
April 13, 1997
Whalers captain Kevin Dineen scored the last NHL goal at the Civic Center on April 13, 1997 as the Whalers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in their last game. After his stint in Hartford, Dineen bounced around the league until he retired as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets four games into the 2002-2003 season. Dineen is one of only five players to score 350 goals in his career while spending more than 2,000 minutes in the penalty box. He remains a fan favorite in Hartford.
