From 1916 until his death in 1955, Stevens lived in Hartford with his wife and daughter, and composed his poems as he walked to work as a Vice President of the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1955. Stevens is buried in Hartford's historic Cedar Hill Cemetery. Click here for a sample of Stevens' poetry. Walter Sanders/Time & Life/Getty Images
