Wallace Stevens (October 2, 1879 - August 2, 1955)

<a href="http://articles.courant.com/2011-09-30/features/hc-wallace-stevens-walk-20110930_1_wallace-stevens-hartford-accident-indemnity-hartford-landmarks">Stevens</a> was a Modernist poet who spent most of his life working as an executive for an insurance company in Hartford. From 1916 until his death in 1955, Stevens lived in Hartford with his wife and daughter, and composed his poems as he walked to work as a Vice President of the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1955. Stevens is buried in Hartford's historic Cedar Hill Cemetery.
