Stephanie Santos of Naugatuck, a junior midfielder on the Hartford women's soccer team, will be part of the Portuguese national team at the 21st Algrave Cup.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior midfielder Stephanie Santos (Naugatuck, Conn.) has been called on to represent Portugal as a member of the National Team as they compete in the 21st Algarve Cup, an invitational women’s soccer tournament help annually in Portugal. Santos and the Portuguese National Team will begin pool play on March 5 with the tournament concluding on March 12.
A total of 12 teams are invited to the annual event with Russia, Korea and Austria joining Portugal in Group C. The Portuguese National Team will open its group action against Austria on Wednesday, March 5 and play Russia on March 7 and Korea on March 10. Placement matches will be held on March 12.
In her first season with the Hawks, Santos earned America East co-Midfielder of the Year accolades as well as being named to the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association All-New England First Team and earning America East All-Conference First Team honors. She finished the 2013 season leading the Hawks and the America East with seven assists in the regular season while adding a goal and an assist in the conference tournament. Overall, her 10 points was third most on the team.
