It's about time UConn changed that dog logo. It's much too old fashioned for modern collegiate athletics. Some people say it's too friendly-looking. That's not the problem. It's too classy, too sophisticated. Modern collegiate athletics is down and dirty. Promises are made and broken, loyalty be damned, ancient rivalries ended for some ready cash. It's all about the Benjamins, in fact, I think they should change the name of the dog from Jonathan to Benjamin.
Nike's designing the new logo dog for free and it'll mean tons of new UConn apparel sales for the school and the sneaker/golf club/T-shirt maker. The old logo dog has been around since 1996. That makes Jonathan 17 years old. That's a very old age for a dog, but he still looks young at heart.
But getting back to the name. You can't have a name like Jonathan attached to a snarling animal. We could base a new name on all the crazy realignments of college conferences. Let's be honest (as they say in sports) UConn is just waiting for an invitation from the ACC and we're gone. We'll bolt the Conference Whose Name Has Not Yet Been Decided in a heartbeat. So, I'm saying maybe the dog should be named Benedict or Arnold.
Anyway, it's the end of an era. I'll miss that cute little pup, but right now I'm going out and buy all the UConn/Jonathan stuff I can get my hands on. There'll be a huge collector value on that merchandise. I'll be rich!Copyright © 2015, CT Now
