David Berkowitz, a U.S. Postal Service letter sorter, was arrested Aug. 10, 1977, suspected of being the "Son of Sam," a murderer who terrorized New York City with a series of shootings, killing six and wounding seven. Berkowitz confessed the next day, citing demonic possession and the influence of his neighbor's dog as reasons why he committed the crimes.
