Langer was one of the first women to make an academic career in the field of philosophy and the first to be considered a major American philosopher, according to the Hartford Courant. She is best known for her 1942 book, Philosophy in a New Key. Langer was a long-time resident of Old Lyme, Conn., and professor of philosophy at Connecticut College in New London.
