The Submarine Force Library and Museum, located on the Thames River in Groton, is the only submarine museum operated by the U.S. Navy, and as such is the primary repository for artifacts, documents and photographs relating to U.S. submarine history. The museum traces the development of David Bushnell's "Turtle," used in the Revolutionary War, to the Ohio and Virginia class submarines. The museum offers free parking and admission. During the summer from May 1 to October 31, they are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Tuesdays.
