The Hartford Yard Goats announced their 25-man opening day roster for the 2018 season as 12 pitchers and 13 position players were assigned to the team by the parent Colorado Rockies.
Included in the group is the organization’s top-rated prospect, infielder Brendan Rodgers, who is making a return to Hartford. In 2017, Rodgers split time between Class A Lancaster and the Yard Goats, hitting a combined .336 with 18 home runs and 64 RBI.
Also among the Rockies’ top prospects in Hartford are right-handed pitchers Peter Lambert (No. 5) and Ryan Castellani (No. 6), and as infielder Garrett Hampson (No. 8). Both Lambert and Hampson are moving up to Double A, while Castellani is back after spending the entire 2017 season in Hartford, where he posted a 9-12 record with a 4.81 ERA. Lambert went 9-8 at the Class A level, while Hampson hit .326 with eight homers and 70 RBI.
Right-handed pitcher Craig Schlitter also returns after making his Double-A debut last season, giving the team a Connecticut connection. The native of Guilford was drafted in the 27th round of the 2014 draft, and was 1-3 in nine appearances last season.
Other players who saw time in Hartford last season include first baseman Brian Mundell and catcher Dom Nunez. Mundell played in 52 games with the Yard Goats last season after his call-up, hitting .302 with three homers and 19 RBI. Nunez was the team’s primary catcher, playing in 95 games while hitting .202 with 11 homers and 28 RBI.
