In the wake of last week's deadly and tragic school shooting in Newtown, parents and commentators in various parts of the country called for more schools to be protected by police or armed guards. Orange County, Fla., Mayor Teresa Jacobs, for example, wants to put police in each elementary school in her county every day. Is this a good idea for Connecticut? Is it worth the expense? Do you object to sending your young child or grandchild to a school patrolled daily by police? Do you think the idea of adding armed guards is a distraction from other steps that need to be taken to prevent gun violence, such as bans on assault weapons or high-capacity ammunition clips?
