Shade Tobacco In Connecticut

The 1955 harvest of Connecticut valley shade tobacco is well underway. The first stage of the tobacco harvest is finished on the farm of H.C. Thrall and Sons, Windsor. The three bottom leaves of all the plants on the farm's 112 acres of tobacco have all been 'primed' (picked by hand) ... Devon Moore, 16, Tampa, Fla., is picking the three bottom leaves of the plant. Young Moore works with a parther; each takes two rows. They place the leaves in a center row. Then they're picked up by a 'dragger.' a man who hauls a basket. Anton Douglas, Maypen, Jamacia is the dragger in this photo.
