Premiere Opens New Season At Yale Cabaret

The world premiere of “We Know Edie La Minx Had a Gun” opens Yale Cabaret’s 46th season in the basement black-box space on 217 Park St., New Haven on Sept. 19 to 21.

The play by Helen Jaksch, Kelly Kerwin and Emily Zemba centers on “the sensationalism surrounding the life and death of a fabulous drag queen, while exploring the grit behind the glam.” Kerwin directs.

Also slated s Amiri Baraka's 1964 play “The Dutchman,” which is described as “a brutal discussion of race, sex, and personal accountability.” The show, directed by Katherine McGerr, runs Sept. 26 to 28.

Running Oct. 3 to 5  is part self-help seminar, part clown show: “The Most Beautiful Thing in the World,” cconceived and directed by Gabe Levey.

The rest of the fall season will be announced in late September. Whitney Dibo, Lauren Dubowski and Kerwin are co-artistic directors and Shane D. Hudson is managing director.

The Yale Cabaret produces 18 shows every season, all created by graduate students at the Yale School of Drama. Chef Anna Belcher provides a changing selection of entrees, small plates, and desserts alongside a variety of wines and beers.
