Singer Melanie Safka

Singer Melanie Safka, center foreground, sits at a microphone between two Mr. Softee ice cream trucks at the 1970 Powder Ridge Rock Festival. It was Friday night and the stage, which was constructed between two Mr. Softee trucks, wasn't much bigger than 20x20ft and was about three feet off the ground. Bedard says, "I don't remember local bands playing there that night, although I do remember them showing the animated movie, Alice in Wonderland." Melanie hooked up to the ice cream trucks electrical systems because authorities had turned off the electricity to the site so no one could perform.<br>
