Carolyn Lumsden (email@example.com) has been with The Courant since 1992 as an editorial writer, op-ed editor and now editorial page editor. She was previously a reporter for the Associated Press in Massachusetts and a copy editor for Random House. Carolyn has a master's degree in communications from Stanford University and one in legal studies from Yale Law School, where she was a Knight fellow. She's married to Francesco Martini, a native of Italy, which they return to every summer.
Peter B. Pach (firstname.lastname@example.org) oversees The Courant's op-eds and the Sunday Opinion section, and writes editorials. He joined The Courant as Middletown bureau chief in 1983. He previously was an editor and reporter for the Meriden Record-Journal. He became a columnist at The Courant, writing about the state's people and issues for about 12 years, which took him to every town in Connecticut. During that time, he joined the editorial board as an editorial writer on local issues. Subsequently, he returned to editing, overseeing local editorials and then op-eds. He taught a class in journalism at Wesleyan University for many years. A native of Boston, he graduated from Union College with a bachelor's degree in English. He lives in Middle Haddam.
Stephen Busemeyer (email@example.com) is The Courant's lead editorial writer. He joined the editorial board in the spring of 2016 after 16 years in various roles at The Courant. From 2009 to 2014, he was The Courant's breaking news editor, during which time The Courant won the 2011 American Society of News Editors’ Jesse Laventhol Award for Deadline News Reporting for its coverage of the Hartford Distributors massacre and was a named finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news for its coverage of the Sandy Hook shootings. He teaches journalism regularly at the University of Hartford and has also taught at the University of Connecticut and the University of Colorado, where he had been a Ph.D. candidate before escaping academia for journalism. A native of Connecticut, he lives in New Hartford with his wife and two children.
Ken Heidel (firstname.lastname@example.org) is the opinion community manager for Courant.com. Over the course of two decades in newspapers, he has been news editor at the Enterprise in Brockton, Mass.; a front-page editor and design desk chief at the Press Democrat in Santa Rosa, Calif.; and news editor at the Norwich (Conn.) Bulletin. Before embarking on his fabulous newspaper career, Ken worked as a landscaper, store clerk, dishwasher and poet. He is married and lives in Fiskdale, Mass.
