I don't know if the Republicans understand how incredibly stupid they look. That's good for the Democrats and editorial cartoonists, but it's not good for democracy.
Who could possibly vote for any one of those losers, except hardcore prejudiced, thoughtless, GOP insiders who would vote for Beelzebub himself if he were a Republican?
I'll tell you what the real people will do, and by that I mean the independent voters, Hispanics, women, blacks, South Sea Islanders, Asians, American Indians, gays and heretofore undiscovered minorities. They'll look at the Republican candidate, who will probably be Mitt Romney, and they'll listen carefully to what he has to say. His backpedaling from his moderate positions as governor of Massachusetts will turn them off. He'll look like he desperately wants the job at best, and at worst he'll look like a coward.
The independents who respect the value of science, are pro choice, couldn’t care less whether gays get married, or not and tend not to be religious extremists will be scared off by the GOP religious nuts running the party. Hispanics will be turned off by the GOP's fear and loathing of illegal immigrants. Women, blacks, South Sea Islanders and all the other categories identified by the U.S. Census Bureau will ultimately not trust the hidden agenda that's the backbone of the modern Republican Party.
In the end, the hardcore in both parties will vote for their own and everyone else will decide that the devil they know is better than the devil they don't know, making President Obama re-elected by a small majority.
I can only hope he loses the popular vote but wins in the Electoral College so the Republicans, hypocrites that they are, will finally listen to reason and we can do away with the Electoral College once and for all.
