Mary Jodi Rell (born June 16, 1946)

Rell is a Republican politician and former Governor of Connecticut, serving from 2004 to 2011, according to the Hartford Courant. She was also Connecticut's Lieutenant Governor, serving under Governor John G. Rowland, who resigned during a corruption investigation. Rell was the second female governor from Connecticut, after Ella T. Grasso. In 2009, Rell announced she would not seek re-election in 2010, and she was succeeded by current Governor Dannel Malloy. Born in Norfolk, Va,, Rell moved to Brookfield, Conn., and attended Western Connecticut State University. She received honorary law doctorates from the University of Hartford in 2001 and the University of New Haven in 2004.
