There will be just one instead of the typically three shows this year at Goodspeed Musical’s Norma Terris Theatre in Chester.
According to executive director Michael Price the reason is the inability by the creative teams of the shows being sought to meet the Goodspeed deadline in order to plan a production schedule for the season. Two shows that were likely for the spring and summer slots had last-minute issues of scheduling and rights issues.
The reason was not a financial issue, says Price, who will be exiting his position at the end of the year. Prince points to an increase in its membership (more than 6,700 so far) and subscriptions (more than 14,000 so far) for its 2014 three-show season at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam.
Goodspeed will produce a new show at the Chester theater in the fall: “The Circus in Winter,” which will receive a full workshop production Oct. 23 to Nov. 16. The book is by Hunter Foster and Beth Turcotte, inspired by the novel by Cathy Day. Music and lyrics are by Ben Clark.
