Susan Sweet of West Hartford painted the artwork on this week's cover, a view of Mark Twain's drawing room. A painter for 30 years, she has taken part in many juried shows around Connecticut. Sweet is a historic interpreter at the Mark Twain House, and for the past year has been working on a series of paintings based on different rooms in the Mark Twain House. "Two of my favorite painters — Matisse and Bonnard — painted interiors, so I decided to do a series of the interiors that I love and know so well," she says. A former writer and editor, Sweet now splits her time among the Mark Twain House, her painting and work as a garden designer. He says of his cover photo: " I decided to venture out one night when all of the grass was covered in a layer of frost. I figured the light of a long exposure image picked up would be lovely due to the reflective surface of the ice. I was correct, this image turned out just the way I had hoped. "A few months after I captured the image, I took the grand prize in an international student photography competition held by Olympus."
