Hayden Carruth (August 3, 1921 - September 29, 2008)

<a href="http://articles.courant.com/1998-08-16/news/9808220148_1_hayden-carruth-poetry-editor-long-life">Carruth</a> was a literary critic and poet. He was born in Waterbury, and grew up in Woodbury. Carruth's father was a newspaper editor for the Waterbury Republican. During his lifetime, Carruth wrote more than 30 books of poetry. In 1996 he won the National Book Award in poetry for his collection, Scrambled Eggs and Whiskey.
