Carlyle F. "Hap" Barnes, 87, of Bristol, died Jan. 2. Barnes founded the Museum of Fire History that opened in 2002 in the New England Carousel Museum building. Barnes, who served for 36 years as a Bristol fire commissioner, assembled a collection of fire memorabilia, from fire hoses and water buckets to ladders, and helmets from many countries. the collection is in the museum. Here, in this 2002 photo, he is standing in front of the entrance to the exhibit which features a photo of the delivery of the first motorized fire truck, a 1909 Pope-Hartford, on the corner of Main and North Main streets.
