Did you love “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” when it had its world premiere at Hartford Stage in 2012 or last year on Broadway? The original Broadway cast album is available April 1. I received an advance copy and listening to it brought back all then fun of the show — as welll as a further appreciation of some of the beautiful ballads.
Speaking of the Broadway production, the musical has weathered the general downtick at the box office during the winter months. Now the next benchmark will be how the box office does against the flurry of new musical opening (“Rocky,” “Aladdin,” “Bullets Over Broadway,” among them). The show has climbed from its lowest weekly gross to $388,00 in early March every week to $409,000, then $432,000 and last week to $453,000. Overall, box office take has remained fairly stable — around a half-million weekly gross — since it opened to glowing reviews in November.
