An East Hartford man was injured Sunday when a car engine exploded near a race track in West Lebanon, N.Y.
Jose Santana, 34, was working on a 1985 Mazda RX7 at the Lebanon Valley Speedway when the engine exploded, New York State Police said. The explosion occurred around 1 p.m. in a parking area near the race track.
The car was running at the time of the incident, police said. Santana was planning to enter the vehicle in a race.
Santana's right eye and right arm were injured. He also was burned.
He was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. Police did not know what caused the engine to explode.
