Elizabeth Alexander (born May 30, 1962)

Alexander is an essayist, playwright, poet and university professor, according to <a href="http://english.yale.edu/faculty-staff/elizabeth-alexander">Yale University</a>. She graduated from Yale with a bachelor's degree. Alexander is currently the chair of African-American Studies at Yale. At the 2009 U.S. presidential inauguration of Barack Obama, Alexander recited the poem, "<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/20/us/politics/20text-poem.html?_r=0">Praise Song for the Day</a>," which she composed for the occasion.
