Ed Mahony has covered Connecticut for more than three decades, mostly for the Hartford Courant. Over the last decade, he has covered some of the country’s biggest political and mob trials, including those of a variety of Connecticut politicians, James “Whitey” Bulger and his law enforcement partners and members of the Patriarca crime family. He focuses on the federal court system, but writes regularly about state and federal legal affairs, politics, issues concerning Puerto Rico and investigative subjects. Mahony attended school in Connecticut, including the University of Connecticut, where he sits on the advisory board for the student newspaper. He is the recipient of numerous journalistic awards, including the Pulitzer Prize and the George Polk award, which he has won twice.
