The Hartford Courant

When you hear Merritt Parkway, you don't exactly picture lush greenery and formal gardens.

However, you can surround yourself in such a tranquil environment at the Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens, located just north of the Merritt Parkway in Stamford.

The Bartlett Arboretum is home to approximately 850 trees and plants, varied throughout several natural habitats, spread over 91 acres.

There is more than just trees and plants and garden displays, however.

The Arboretum is a non-profit organization, with an horticultural library, educational programs for children and adults alike, and an herbarium, which holds specimens as old as 200 years.

There are both self and guided tours available, which are complimentary with the Garden Admission fee of $6.00.

Members of the Arboretum and children under 12 enter for free, and admission is free of charge for everyone on Wednesdays.

The Bartlett Arboretum is open every day, from 8:30 a.m. until sunset.
