Protestors in Romania

Protestors negotiate with police on University Square in Bucharest late on January 14, 2012 during a demonstration against the government's austerity program and Romanian President Traian Basescu. Some 600 people have been gathering over the past two days against austerity measures and planned health care reforms, calling on Basescu to quit. Protesters were also called out to support the founder of Romania's emergency medical services, Raed Arafat, a Palestinian-born doctor, who was forced to resign earlier this week after a row with Basescu over controversial health reform proposals.
